SURFACE MOUNT TECHNOLOGY
(SMT) ASSISTANCE
Are you facing these issues?
- Need to miniaturize
the design of your electronic product?
- Electronic parts availability
forcing you to go to surface mount?
- Starting to use SMT
but need help with design for manufacturability?
- Suppliers expect you
to adopt their producibility guidelines?
- Not sure what SMT
workmanship standards are - or how to interpret them?
- Faced with lifetime
buy on obsolete components or redesign?
- Starting a surface
mount manufacturing line in your company?
If YES, you may benefit
from Surface Mount Technology Assistance
.
Surface Mount Technology is
An electronic (circuit board) design in
which parts mount on the surface of the board rather than into plated
through holes. Surface mounted components are miniature versions
of the older "through-hole" parts and offer more versatile,
faster installation. SMT is a design technique that reduces space
consumption and can be used in combination with through-hole parts.
As products get smaller, the need to design using surface mount
technology becomes critically important.
What are the benefits of using Surface
Mount Technology?
- Reduces the size/weight
of the product by up to 75%

- Automates assembly,
reducing costs and cycle time
- Saves on parts costs
as components in surface mount packages are generally less expensive
- Parts can be installed
on both sides of the board, increasing functionality without increasing
board size
- Closer spacing of
parts is achieved, meeting the demands of high speed or low impedance
circuits
How can MMEC help me understand
and/or implement Surface Mount Technology?
MMEC works with you and your team to understand
your business objectives and design and manufacturing needs. We
assist owners and managers in determining if SMT is advantageous
in reaching company goals and provide guidance to designers, assembly
and test personnel, buyers, and any others in the organization that
will be affected by the conversion to surface mount. MMEC has experienced
engineers to provide training and start-up assistance.
